********************Ah yes, it's that most wonderful and magical time of the year when once again the air is filled with the sounds of Christmas music. Songs to warm your heart, to fill you with Christmas spirit, to prompt you to wish nothing but good will to your fellow man, to make you cringe and want to cover your ears ... Yes, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls - it's once again time for the radio in your car to be plagued by the most nauseating Christmas song of all time - "Dominick the Donkey"!.
I was rather surprised to learn that this song dates back to 1967 as it seems that it was just in the past couple of years that it has made its way onto every Christmas playlist out there and is in very heavy rotation on the stations that play Christmas music. It's one of those songs that you either love or hate but that the Christmas season apparently would not be the same without.
As everyone at work knows, I personally hate this song and have been known to cover my ears and rock back and forth in my chair while chanting loudly in an effort to drown it out when it comes on the radio. This, of course, causes my ever considerate co-workers to sing along even louder with the lyrics and would probably give anyone who happened to walk into the room ample reason to question our sanity.
Having done a search on the Internet, I know that I am not alone in my dislike for the song but I'm curious to know what you, dear readers, think when it comes to our boy Dominick, the popular little Italian donkey. If you haven't had the chance to hear the song yet (and aren't you the lucky one?!) I'm even including a YouTube version for you to watch and sing along with while you contemplate your answer!
I shall be anxiously awaiting your replies while the melodious yet annoying La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la. La-la la-la-la-la-la-ee-oh-da! is stuck on a continous loop in my head!
