The Brand-Spanking New "Moaning Meme"!

********************
Having recently been tagged with a seemingly overabundance of memes imagine my surprise and delight when I was tagged for yet another meme by The Freelance Cynic. Yes, you read that right - surprise and delight! No, I didn't fall on my head! This is a new and innovative meme and I was invited to be one of the very first people to participate in it. I feel honored, I feel esteemed, I feel downright giddy! Well, okay, so I don't do giddy - scratch that last one and just go with honored and esteemed.

This new cutting edge meme is designed for the cynic in all of us and aptly called "The Moaning Meme". What - you may be asking yourself - is a moaning meme? Glad you asked! It's more or less the antithesis of all the other memes you find floating around the Blogosphere. To quote Simon, our lovable Freelance Cynic -
"... a recent study has shown that the most effective form of human bonding is moaning and gossiping but our blogs, the social tools of the 21st century, are populated by memes listing our 'favourites,' or our 'blessings,' or our 'funniest' moments. In our efforts to be readable we have denied others the one thing that makes us interesting - our whining, moaning, complaining selves. And so I am pleased to present the first ever Moaning Meme! The meme that will teach us all a bit more about each other and ourselves."
Woo-hoo! A meme that let's me be me! Er, I mean, this is really going to be tough as I have a constant positive outlook on life and it will be hard to put a more cynical spin on it but I shall do my best to circumvent my rainbows and sunshine personality and come up with something a little more dark and morose. And if you believe that, I think I can come up with a bridge or statute that you might want to purchase; just email me via the cute little white mailbox you to see to your right and I'll tell you where to send your certified check!

Alright then - on with the meme! First off, the important stuff ... the rules!
  • Link to the original meme at freelancecynic.com so people know what it's all about!
  • Be as honest as possible. This is about letting people get to know the real you!
  • Try not to insult anyone - unless they really deserve it or are very, very ugly!
  • Post these rules at the end of every meme! (I posted them in the middle - shoot me!)
And now to the meat of the meme ...

List 4 things that should go into room 101 and be removed from the face of the earth:
  1. The TV Executives who decided that it was okay to interrupt a show in mid-series by showing re-runs when the new season has barely gotten started. What happened to a full season and then re-runs??
  2. Every single one of those TV entertainment magazine-style shows (i.e., Access Hollywood, Entertainment Tonight, etc.) who are under the mistaken impression that we care about Hollywood celebrities who aren't really celebrities along with the annoying hosts who foolishly believe that they're celebrities themselves.
  3. Film producers who apparently couldn't come up with a new idea for a movie if it kicked them in the ass. How many sequels can a movie have for crying out loud?
  4. Drive-up money machines at banks that have braille on them. You're kidding, right? I mean, seriously?
3 things people do that make you want to shake them violently:
  1. Get into the Express Line at the grocery store with way too many items and then act like it's their God-given right to do so.
  2. Answer the question "911, what's the address of your emergency??" with the words "Well, it's not an emergency but I didn't know the regular number."
  3. Pull out in front of you in traffic causing you to slam on your brakes and then crawl along at less than the speed limit when there was absolutely nobody behind you!
2 things you find yourself moaning about:
  1. Crowds - any crowds - I hate crowds!
  2. Stupid people. I have no tolerance for idiots.
1 thing the above answers tell you about yourself:
  1. I really should be living by myself in a cave somewhere as it seems that a lot of people really annoy me! Oh, and I'd best not have a TV with me!
Speaking of annoying people, I now get to annoy tag some other folks who might just have a hidden cynical side that we've never been exposed to. So, let's spin the Magic Wheel of Memes and see who it lands on!
  • The first spin goes to The Curmudgeon! How appropriate!
  • The second spin has landed on Claire's A Little Piece of Me; I've read Claire's ventings before so I suspect she'll do just grand on this!
  • Third spin takes us to Morgen of It's A Blog Eat Blog World; the man is in retail so this could really be good!
  • Oh - look who the fourth spin landed on! I'm not sure if my blog designer Se7en of Evil Se7en does memes but this could be the perfect one to start on!
  • And the fifth and final spin lands on Jamie, blog-mistress at Duward Discussion and author of this really great post on The Donner Party that she did especially for me!
Now go have fun, folks, be yourselves, and as Simon says "remember, cynical is sexy"!

  1. Hey Cynical is Sexy! Good stuff :)

And I'm loving "Drive-up money machines at banks that have braille on them. You're kidding, right? I mean, seriously?"

    Very well done indeed!

And interesting that the shape and style of the meme could alter so much on the very first round. Can't wait to see how it ends up!

  2. After I copy three fourths of your list because we were separated at birth and then shove you in room 101 for gifting(?) me with this meme, it will be finished in no time.

Actually, this should be fun .. permission to Kvetch .. I like it.

  3. Why is it that when I see the word MEME and the topic of it - even when I might be in mid-rant about something (major or minor -makes no nevermind) that irritates me or that is a quirky thing about me - whatever - my mind then immediately decides to go blank? Can't come up with anything then to save my soul.
But -thanks to your post, and this MEME, I have to agree with your choices to moan about - especially the tv seasons and the way the networks operate and very definitely those shows with the never ending stories about Paris Hilton or Anna Nicole or well, you name it who the person is and the blather that just goes on and on and ON Forever!

  6. Good post, Linda. Have to agree w/some of your "points" - especially TV. There's a reason I read more now than I have ever before.

BTW: perhaps I can help you with the whole "Braille on the drive-up ATM machines" thing. Look at it from a practical, corporate, and even an engineering point of view. Most banks have walk-up or walk-in ATM's in their lobbies or on the wall next to the doors, right? Alot of banks have both walk-up AND drive-up ATM's, right? Wouldn't it be easier from the production, procurement, and implementing aspect to have "ABC Bank" order ONE type of machine made a certain way, then put it in BOTH places? Besides those "Braille" buttons you see were made in plastics plants much like the one I used to work in; and they are mass-produced for ALL vendors & assemblers of machines. Again, why special order when it's easier just to make 'em all the same. In THIS case, it does work.

  8. Hmmmmmmm.

Why would you so quickly think of me when it comes to moaning and complaining?

But I will give this some thought and post soon.

    Thanks.
