"Why don't you hit me with your best shot!"

********************
Scroll down for Wordless Wednesday!

Whilst visiting one of my blogging buds who lives across the pond, the red-headed Miss Claire from A Little Piece of Me, I came across a post titled "My Best Shot for Blog-Op" in which she tells of a post written by her old chum Chris at Blog-Op that sounded pretty interesting.

Chris's idea is "to breathe some fresh air into old posts, to share some linkage, to expose readers to new blogs (now will be a good time to de-lurk and publicize your blog!) and maybe get each other some more traffic." What he's suggesting is that you go through your archives, find a post that you thought was pretty dang good but wasn't very well received or was written so long ago that your now devoted group of followers never saw it to begin with, and link to it in a new post (i.e., this one!) To do that he proposes that you follow these simple rules:
  1. Write a post telling your readers about your ‘best shot’ and link them to it.
  2. Link back to the blog which first asked you to give your best shot.
  3. Ask your readers for their best posts, and then ensure you read and comment on them.
Sounded like a good idea to me and apparently Claire thought so, too, but as she fancies herself as having such a fantastically great blog she just couldn't pick one post to call her best shot! I can see why she had such difficulty with that as she has had some wonderful posts and they all seem to have been well-received so how's a girl to pick just one? It's just so easy to love Claire and her blog!

In looking through my archives, I came across not one but two posts that I thought were pretty well-written but they just didn't seem to generate any comments (with the exception of one comment on the first post by my favorite Bulldog!). Either there was no one reading my blog at that point in time or these posts were not as good as I thought they were, which is highly possible as sometimes it's just so hard to be objective when it comes to your own stuff!

So ... let's see if either of these were any good at all or if I was once again being delusional!

Now I would love to see some of my other readers pick up this particular baton and run with it so I can see just what posts others thought were their best shots, too.

As Pat Benatar used to sing -

"Hit me with your best shot!
Come on, hit me with your best shot!
Hit me with your best shot!
Fire away!"

Standing by for incoming!

  3. OK, I'm not sure if I should comment here on the old posts or there, but I'm here now....
Wow, Bookworm. I played so much during one of the periods of bedrest (don't remember which) that I would look at the newspaper or a book and try linking up letters. I'd see that screen in my sleep. It was better than spider solitare because I actually had to think, but man did it sap time.

  6. This is a good idea. I have just read your two 'best shot' posts Linda and had I been blogging and reading yours when you posted them I would definitely have commented - they are both really good.

I may take up the challenge in the future. :)

  9. Read the posts, commented on both of them but I don't know if the 2nd one registered or not. It appeared to have until after I closed out and then, well -blogger does strange things, ya know.
I might venture forth and try this although I am not a big fan of memes and such. But can I make a reasonable decision in choosing one of my old posts? Therein lies the rub, ya know.
I don't know why your readers would have passed the opportunity to comment on the two best shots you listed as I thought they were like your normal posts, excellent caliber!

  10. Linda, wow, these are thought-provoking posts. Especially the one about Death, with a capital D.

I will try to find one or two of mine to repost from before I had any readers...
I realize how little I reveal of myself when I read what you and others come up with on a daily basis.

  12. Yeah, I remember your posts on Death & the bookworm. They were nicely written, maybe a little dark, but definately noteworthy. Surprised you didn't get more comments.

Whenever you write from the heart, it becomes more "real" - and your readers pick that up instantly!
