Calling All Ladies!!

Some of you may or may not have heard about the Saturday Comeback Challenge that Mimi, Queen of Memes hosts every week on one of her other blogs, Dating Profile of the Day. If you aren't familiar with the game, on Saturdays Mimi posts ten headline and/or essay snippets from honest-to-goodness, you-can't-make-this-stuff-up personal ads written by eligible bachelors in search of their one true love. Your mission, as a contestant, is to write a comedic response to each of the snippets and then send them back to Mimi via email no later than 11:59 on the following Monday. At that point, Mimi judges your comebacks and then announces the winners in a post on Wednesday. The idea is to be funny without being base, crass, mean-spirited, or inappropriate.

I've participated in the Comeback Challenge a few times since first finding it and am happy to say that I've actually managed to win twice but it's tougher than it sounds as coming up with the ultimate comeback can be quite tricky at times. Sometimes it's hard to find the right combination of cutting and comedic but it's a lot of fun to try.

This week I did a'ight but I was competing against three men and lost - yet again - to one of those men. I need someone to explain to me why it is that men seem to be able to come up with snappier comebacks to other men than women do? Is it because they're used to hearing cutting comebacks from the women that they dish the same sort of foolishness out to? Is it because they know exactly how lame they're going to sound with their pick-up lines before they even utter them so have already predicted the response? Is it because men play the Comeback Challenge more than women do?

Whatever the reason may be, ladies, we need to take the art of the snarky comeback back and show these men exactly how it's done! I ask all of you to join me in the next round at Dating Profile of the Day this coming Saturday and show these men how it's done. Come on, girls, let's make Queen Mimi proud and maybe we can even talk her into a "get-out-of-the-dungeon-free pass" for at least making an effort.

Who's with me??
