Roses Are Red, Violets Are Blue, This Song is a Valentine From Me to You!

♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Today is Valentine's Day - yeeha and big whoop.

I don't mean to be a Negative Nelly but I just don't think it's quite fair for those of us who don't have a significant other to be subjected to a day that is all about love and romance and chocolate and flowers and cards and cute stuffed animals and diamond jewelry and romantic dinners and ... and ... talk about being made to feel even worse about one's status when it comes to the lack of any sort of a romantic relationship ... yeesh! Perhaps I should take a stand similar to those of the people who are offended at hearing Christmas songs and say that I am offended by hearing all about love!

Ah, but even though I'm not in love, I do love love so I can't really rail against it and wish it away, now can I? I love a good romance novel, a good love song, a good mushy movie, a good kiss that makes your toes tingle and your knees weak, and happy endings all around in spite of this gruff and grumpy exterior! So ... I'm not going to boycott Valentine's Day like our dear Queen Mimi who has fresh memories of better Valentine's Days than this year's but who also wrote a beautiful post entitled "What I Know About Love"; I'm not going to begrudge anyone a single flower blossom, bite of chocolate, or romantic card; I'm not going to sit home and wonder why I'm sitting home alone; and I'm not going to hide under the covers until the day goes away.

Instead I'm going to be happy for, and perhaps a bit envious of, those who have a love to share the day with; I'm going to go right on believing that love will find me one day and it will do more than stay and visit for awhile; and I'm going to share one of my very favorite songs from one of my very favorite movies with you ... from Moulin Rouge, Ewan McGregor and Nicole Kidman singing "Come What May" -

May everyone have a happy Valentine's Day - come what may in your own lives!

  1. honey i hope you have a lovely day...

    smiles, bee

  2. Dear Heart,
Just remember, this is just a manufactured day to make men feel like they have to acknowledge the sappy side of love; and for Hallmark and rose growers to line their coffers!
It doesn't mean that those of us who love you, love you any less; or that there's not some bodacious fella out there somewhere...
You are SO much more than a Hallmark card!

  3. happy valentine's day Linda

I can deal with Valentine's Day much easier than Sweetest Day, which was a total fabrication for companies like Hallmark and 1-800-FLOWERS to make another buck later in the year.

Anyway, this whole idea of a day dedicated to love isn't necessarily confined to romantic love. Celebrate the love of two great daughters. That's worth getting out of bed for every day!

nice video... never saw that movie.

as for Valentine's Day, think of it as a Catholic holy day gone awry...

  6. *swoon* I love this song soooooooo much. It reminds me of something.. I have to go post! :D

Happy Valentine's Day! <3 The love of lots of good friends is a good reason to celebrate too, isn't it?

  7. Just left Asara's place and knew I'd love your post. Beautiful Linda, absolutely beautiful. Love Moulin Rouge. Have a great day my friend. :)

  8. LOVE this song...
I totally fell in love with Ewan McGregor when I saw this scene.
Perfect for today for those of us who are romantics but alone this day.
Sending you much love, my dear friend.

  9. Happy Valentine's Day, Linda!

  10. Linda, I ♥ YOU!!!

So, what about we people who DO have a significant other - yet, that significant other does nothing to acknowledge it? (sniff, sniff, pout, pout)

  11. Since we will both be spending the evening without a valentine, you might as well read a good book. I tagged you for the 123 Book Meme.

Maggie Moo came up with a yummy one.

  12. I hope you are having a good Valentine's Day.

You have a lot of people who care about you!

  13. I thought it was very odd when I first arrived in America, the 'inclusiveness' of VA, as they made a big thing of it in pre-school, which I thought was most peculiar. I used to send home American VA cards to England [they would be VA cards to a pet or a neighbour etc.]

Nowadays, as with just about everything else, I'm glad it's that way out here.
    Best wishes

  15. Hope you had a great day, Linda.

  16. There's so much more to love than romance. I spent 10 years as a single Mom and some of my happiest Val Day's were with my dd!

♥ Happy Valentine's Day my dear friend ♥

Linda, what a great post!! I've got a little Valentine for you, check your email. :-) Hee hee!

  18. There's some poor guy out there that's missing out on a whole lot of love - I hope he finds you soon honey. xx

  19. After many years of valentines, chocolate, etc it stopped once the girls grew up and left home. That first year was tough as I thought he was only remembering because of the kids. I got what was the usual, he doesn't need the flower and candy industry to make him tell me I Love you, so I just sulked. Then on April 29th I received flowers at work (always a nice touch) because it was the anniversary of the day we met. That is the day we celebrate and valentine's day is just a day to eat candy at work! I don't miss it at all.
