I've Got a Question - You've Got an Answer

Now that we've feasted on turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and all the fixin's including several different kinds of pie it's officially the start of the holiday season (I'm sorry but I am just not going to rush it like retailers seem to want us to do these days). It's time for Christmas lights, Christmas music, and all of the other great stuff that goes along with the Christmas season which brings us directly to this post's question -

What's your favorite thing about the holidays?

For me one of my very favorite things is the smell of fresh pine boughs. I don't know what it is but that smell brings back such a flood of happy memories from Christmases gone by that it to me it's most definitely one of the best things about Christmas. That and a good version of O' Holy Night ... what about you??

  1. One of my favorite things would be childhood memories of the anticipation and wonder of it all. Waiting for Santa Claus to arrive, the countdown, the waiting some more. Leaving cookies and milk for Santa, and carrots for the reindeer.

I love old-fashioned Christmas carols, as well as the songs of the season that are not quite so serious.

I also love that our daughter was born on my birthday, between Christmas and New Year's, which makes the season even more special at our house.

There's more, but I haven't had enough coffee yet. Maybe I'll be back..
    Have a great Friday.

  2. Aggravating my father. He hated Christmas so we would go overboard to OD him on the holiday spirit. It never worked but it was funny.

  3. Family is the best. The getting together in good times and bad times, but being together and loving each other. Can't beat that in my book. Have a great day Linda. :)

  4. can I start with NOT being sick??

I love Advent. Getting ready for Christmas...making gifts to give (check) and seeing the faces as they're given...This year I'm creating an Advent calendar putting a verse from the Bible story in each of the doors. I'm looking forward to teaching this story to my children day by day....as soon as I find some cool clipart to put with each verse!

  6. Giving gifts and taking pictures. I also like that it seems people are a bit nicer this time of year. I wish it was like that all the time.

  7. Like Patti, the best part as a child was the slow buildd-up to the big day, which sadly disappeared too quickly.

  8. We don't do thanksgiving but my favourite thing about Christmas is having my Dad, MIL & FIL to Christmas dinner then the family come visit. So, just for a few hours, we all get to be together. :)

  11. To me it was when I was a kid, When my kids were kids, now my grandchildren. I love the mystery of Santa Claus and the magic that surrounds it... Baby Jesus in the manager with all the animals around.. to cool!!! Christmas is Magic.. I could give a rip about the Present.. I love watching the kids faces light up when they open the presents... :)

  12. Either an overstuffed house full of the faces I love best or thinking hilarious Holiday thoughts of you trying to play Scrabble (or maybe it was Trivial Pursuit?) after you'd had a tad too much Yuletide cheer. No, I'm certain of it--it's the latter!

  13. When I was a kid, it was definitely the presents. Now it's just a moment to rest and spend time with extended family. I love the pine tree smell as well, and freshly baked cookies, and just listening to a chatter & sitting by the fireplace :o)

  14. I like the music, and the lights, and the smells. I like wrapping paper and bows.

But my favorite part comes about the 23rd/24th....when I take the time to remember "the reason for the season" and all that it means to me and how I choose to live my life.
