I've Got a Question - You've Got an Answer!

Gee, I haven't asked you guys a question in a very, very, very long time, have I?  I guess that means it's way past time that I did so ... hmmm, let's see ... what's a good question to ask?  I know!  How about this one?

What is the last best movie that you watched?

It doesn't have to be a recent release at a movie theater, it can be something you saw on HBO, Turner Classic Movies, AMC, or even Lifetime!  Or it could be something you've rented from NetFlix or Blockbuster or even pulled off of your own shelf.

Personally I'd have to say that it was almost a tie between Shutter Island and Sherlock Holmes with the latter just nudging out into the lead a little bit because of its two principal actors - Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law.  Add in a fantastic movie score by Hans Zimmer and it's one I can watch over and over and over again - generally with Amanda sitting right next to me!

So tell me - what have you watched lately that you really like?

  1. Being totally turned off by Hollywood politics and paying high prices for so-so movies, we've pretty much quit going to movies. However...we saw "The Blind Side" and loved it! I even read the book after seeing the movie.

    Big hugs...

  2. Anonymous10:19 AM EDT

I don't do movies for the same reason above. I *adore* TCM, but only get it on the road. Our basic cable doesn't have it.

I watched the movie based on the musical, Jesus Christ Superstar on Easter. It is one of my all-time favorites. Something I grew up with.

  3. I spent yesterday watching Mr. Holland's Opus. I've probably seen that movie a good five times already but it's such a great movie.

  4. Two Sundays ago I watched "Sunset Boulevard" on Turner Classic - it was a great movie!

I guess that's why they call them classics.

  5. My all tome favourite movie is 'The Hours', although I loved the recent release 'The Mist' and 'Let The Right One In'.

  6. My all-time favorite is Lord of the Rings. I just can't see anything ever knocking that off the top.

I've always been a Tolkien fan and read or listen to The Hobbit and LotR at least once a year (I also have both on audio CD for long drives).

I was excited and worried when I heard they were finally making it into a movie. I just couldn't see how they could do it well, but boy did they ever!

  7. I always liked this feature. I saw the movie Across the Universe last night. i could not believe as a Beatles fan I had not heard of it. But the new lady in my life brought it over and it was great. Oh. I liked the movie too... ;)

  8. Alice in Wonderland IMAX 3D.

that was the last best one. it was spetacular!

  9. The best movie I've seen recently is Tropic Thunder with Ben Stiller. :)

  10. "Grand Tarino" w/Clint Eastwood. What a great movie that was - and to tell you the truth, it made me forget whatever movies I've seen since! ;-)

  11. We haven't "been" to a movie in way over five years. I don't watch many because I hate crying. One of hubman
s favorites is "Message in a Bottle," and even he admitted to shedding a tear. ARGH! I made the huge mistake of watching "Nights in Rodanthe," and wound up with a 15 minute crying fit. I have to stick with suspense or comedy and there haven't been many good comedies lately.

  12. Avatar I loved it.
