Five on Friday - Brad Paisley

Welcome back to another version of Travis' Five on Friday* wherein I get to subject you to share with you five more of my favorite songs via a very quick and easy meme that I've come to really enjoy.  If you'd like to join in, here be the very easy guidelines:
  • Grab the banner, make your post title Five on Friday, and be sure to link back here.
  • Go to to make your play list of five songs. Choose a particular theme to share with us. You can simply post the play list, or you can add a little summary about what you are sharing.
  • Pop over to Trav's Thoughts and leave your link so that others can find you!
  • No tags, but feel free to invite your friends to play along if they need a post topic on a Friday.
My taste in music is all over the place with the one caveat being "if it's good, I'll listen to it!" so having shared early Elton John with you last week and movie music composers in previous weeks, this week I'm heading in yet another direction and presenting five songs from one of my favorite country artists - Brad Paisley.

Brad Douglas Paisley was born shortly after I entered my freshman year of high school in October of 1972 and has been playing guitar since he was 8 years old when his grandfather taught him how to play. At age 12 he wrote his first song and by age 13 he was opening for Ricky Scaggs, The Judds, and George Jones in Wheeling, West Virginia at the Capital Music Hall. Yep, he was that good and he still is!

Most people probably know Brad from his song Whiskey Lullaby - a sad and soulful duet with bluegrass singer Alison Krause about the ravages of war and whiskey - or the humorous parody song Celebrity whose video featured Jason Alexander, William Shatner, Jim Belushi, and others.  His music style has been called a combination of traditional country and southern rock but for my money, I'm totally sold on his slower songs which my five choices are this week.  Honestly, no one can pull at heart strings better than Brad Paisley; especially with my favorite of the five I Wish You'd Stay which was the fourth and final single released from his second album Part II - which remains one of my very favorite Paisley albums.

Matter of fact, I'm going to throw in a bonus song for you this week in the form of a YouTube video as the title song for Part II isn't on  Next to I Wish You'd Stay, it's my favorite song from the album.  Sometimes sad country songs just say it better than anything else out there.

*For those of you who read this post as "Take This Tune" rather than "Five on Friday" in your readers, that would be because I had apparently not had enough coffee when I first posted it and put the wrong title in. Oops!!

  1. Looks like he shot to the top pretty quickly.

Have a terrific day and weekend Linda. Big hug. :)

  2. For whatever reason, Brad Paisley has never been on my country radar. Can't explain why. I do like his sound though.

  3. I adore Brad Paisley who is up for Entertainer of the year this weekend. Recently downloaded the "PLAY" album and have played it into the ground because of all the great instrumentals on it. He is a master guitarist right up there with the best of the best.

  4. I remember the song/video Celebrity, I loved it

  5. I've never heard of Brad Paisley and unfortunately your playlist won't play for me. I did manage to listen to the youtube video though and he's got a great voice. I love country and western music.

  6. His song "Online" cracks me up. My roommate was a big fan so he grew on me.

  7. Though not a huge country fan, I have enjoyed hearing Mr. Paisley when in the car with my bride and she has control of the XM!

  8. I really liked "I Wish You'd Stay" ~ I don't think I've ever heard it.

I'll be back to listen to the others..

  9. Oh Yeah, You're Gone is my favorite from your set today, Linda. Enjoyed your accompanying bio of Brad Paisley. Imagine, opening for those artists at 13!

  10. Brad can park his hat at my house any day! I do like him. I wonder if he'll be at the Grand Ole Opry tomorrow night...when I will be there!

    Big hugs, honey...

  11. oh I get so mad at myself. I love music but hardly ever know what the heck I am enjoying... dang it
