Five on Friday - The "Five Degrees of Musical Progression" Version

Back in early January our host for Five on Friday had an earworm that ended up creating a Five on Friday set that Travis called Five Degrees of Musical Progression. All five songs in his set for the week were linked somehow or other and on the following Tuesday - after giving us a weekend to try to figure out what twists and turns that earworm took - he posted the explanation of how one song led to another. It was a lot of fun so Travis thought it might be a good idea to give all of us who participate in his meme the chance to do our own musical progression through five songs.

I had a lot of fun putting together this week's set even though it was a little tricky keeping track of where I was going with what at times!  When I tried to explain it to Jamie, who was my inspiration for the song that started the musical chain, she was totally lost and seemed to become even more confused at each turn but still gave me a kiss on the head and said "Great job, Mom!" at the end of my explanation.

So, let's see if any of you can figure out what it was that led one song into another. I'll post the explanation on Monday so be sure to come back to see how close to being right you were!  In the meantime, if you have fun with this one, be sure to pop over to Trav's Thoughts and see what some of the other FOFers came up with.

I love that BOC song... One of my faves...

  2. I'm pretty familiar with all those songs, but I just don't think I can make a connection. I'll give it a shot after work though.

  3. Completely lost on the from "here" to "there" but loved the song selection particularly the Mondonna song that I had never heard.

  4. Hmm, in looking at the titles, I don't recognize any of them. Guess I am OLD.

Single digit. I recognize that. Big hugs, honelly...

  5. Why does that "L" finger hit that key all too often??? :(

  6. I love N Sync doing anything. They rock.

Have a terrific day and weekend. Nine days till cruise time. Big hug. :)

  7. Nope Linda, I just can't figure it out. I do love In Your Eyes though - it makes me think of Say Anything and I LOVE that movie. Lloyde Dobbler... *sigh*

  8. I'm not familiar with any of those so I can't even hazard a guess at a connection.

  9. Clueless. I am. I don't know any of these songs. But I do know we have a cruise comin' up fast!

  10. I can't say that I can figure out the progression, but from the posts, I don't feel lonely about that. lol However, I found your combinations interesting and eclectic. I like that. Got to hear some songs that I hadn't listened to in a while and get introduced to some new ones too!

  11. I will join the group liking your selections, but having no idea how the progression came about...TELL US! LOL

  12. *twirling mustache with my evil laugh*

That was an awe-inspiring progression, Linda!

    1 - Justin Timberlake from N'Sync
    2 - collaborated on Madonna's '4 Minutes'
3 - Madonna's 1993 video for 'Bad Girl' featured Christopher Walken
4 - who played the producer of Blue Oyster Cult in the Saturday Night Live 'More Cow Bell' skit as they recorded 'Don't Fear the Reaper'
5 - Peter Gabriel performed 'In Your Eyes' as the musical guest on SNL

  13. Look at Julia going all research on it! I love it!

I had the connection between N'Sync (well, the Timbersnake anyway) and Madonna. I read somewhere about the collaboration. But you stumped me on the rest.

I can say that I love In Your Eyes. It's a great song even without the iconic Say Anything moment.

Wow extremely clever list, I just bumped in your website and I am intrigue with your combination. Hmmm... Maybe I can make like this one also. The connection between Madonna, Christopher Walken and Blue Oyster cult who would have guessed it for the first time? Very good list. Thanks for sharing!
