Let Them Eat Cake!

Let Them Eat Cake, originally uploaded by Linda Orlomoski.

Yesterday marked not only the first wedding anniversary of the beautiful Dawn and her husband Frank, but also the first anniversary of my ever having been the photographer at a wedding. Truth be told, it still makes me nervous to think about it all this time later.

As I looked through the pictures yesterday and remembered how the ceremony which was orignally supposed to be held outside had to be moved indoors due to some extremely lousy weather, I thought about how happy the soon-to-be-wed couple were in spite of all the obstacles ... which included some pretty lousy lighting for an unexperienced person with a camera who was just doing a favor for a friend.

In spite of that lack of experience, I was honored to be asked to take pictures for Frank and Dawn on one of their most memorable days as a couple - not because I really wanted to be a wedding photographer but because I love weddings even though they tend to make me cry as I'm a bit of a sap! Oh, okay, I'm a total sap but let's not spread that around!

Of course, following a couple around with a camera gives you a lot more insight into a wedding than sitting in as a guest does as there is just SO much that goes on behind the scenes - things that would probably drive any sane person close to going over the edge! I'm not sure I remember any of that from my own wedding as I seem to have toally blocked out that part of my life but honestly, I think that if a couple manages to make it through their wedding, their reception, and all of the stress it entails and are still able to smile at the end of the day then they've got a pretty good shot at being a happy couple for a very long time.

I don't remember that I was smiling on August 17th, 1991 but I know for a fact that Dawn and Frank were both beaming on May 8th, 2010 from the beginning of a day filled with storms and rain to the end of a night that was filled with thousands of stars. If you don't believe me, I've got a lot of pictures to prove it!

Best wishes for many, many years of happiness - may you love each other more with each new day than you did the day before!

  1. What a great looking couple. Love times two. It's great that you got to be the photographer. I can understand why they asked you to do that. You take awesome photographs.

Have a terrific day. Big hug. :)

  2. Happy Anniversary to Dawn & Frank! That certainly is a look of pure happiness on their faces in that shot:-) I was asked to be photographer at my brother Mike's wedding and I can understand the nervous wreck part! lol I only had a little camera at the time so that didn't help matters much but they did seem happy with the pictures so for that I was relieved. As you say, though, there's just so much to think about when you're photographing a wedding!! xoxo

  3. You have a great eye for framing your subjects, so even though you were nervous and inexperienced, I suspect you did just fine.

  5. Happy anniversary to them. If that picture is a sample of the pictures they had, they were well pleased.

  6. All of my wedding pictures went the way of my baby book and even more valuable pictures plus a lot of stuff in a senseless theft. I do remember that I looked as if I was walking the last mile, but would still like to have them back.

You did a wonderful job with that first "for a friend" job.
