Fall in Love With the Next Mo Show

Our intrepid Mo Show Movie Critic
& Mommy Blogger Neila
returns to co-host this week's show
on Romantic Comedies.

Tune in live Wednesday @ 7pm Eastern
to The Mo Show
on Blog Talk Radio
I love romantic comedies or "chick flicks" as they're more popularly known so this show is going to be right up my alley! Of course, I haven't seen too many of them lately myself but I'm sure that Mo and Neila will talk about at least one of them I've seen during the course of my lifetime!

There's Must Love Dogs with John Cusack or When Harry Met Sally with Billy Crystal or You've Got Mail with Tom Hanks or Shakespeare in Love with Joseph Fiennes or Love Actually, Bridget Jones's Diary, or Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason with Colin Firth (Colin Firth ... drool ...) or Bull Durham with Kevin Costner or 10 Things I Hate About You with Heath Ledger or ... wait a minute, maybe I have seen a lot of these after all!

Darn but I love love so I'll definitely be there and I'm going to have popcorn on hand for this show - how about you?

The Mo Show - "A Christmas Carol"

Wednesday, 7pm Eastern
on Blog Talk Radio

Our second Mo Show Book Club selection
is Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol

Join in the discussion of this classic,
in all its incarnations.

I have always loved "A Christmas Carol" ever since I was a kid and used to watch the Mr. Magoo version which debuted on TV in 1962. Since then I've enjoyed "Scrooged" with Bill Murray in 1988, Patrick Stewart's 1999 version, and the best ever version - in my humble holiday opinion - "The Muppet Christmas Carol" (1992) complete with one of the best Scrooges ever - Michael Caine!

If you aren't too busy doing last-minute shopping tomorrow night, join us for The Mo Show on BlogTalk Radio and don't forget to bring your best humbug!

This Week on The Mo Show

This week we'll be discussing Sue Monk Kidd's novel
The Secret Life Of Bees
Wednesday @ 7pm Eastern on Blog Talk Radio

Due to some pre-Thanksgiving committments, I'll be missing the first Mo Show Book Club session tomorrow night but that doesn't mean that I can't catch it in the archives. Which gives me a chance to catch up as I still haven't gotten the book and read it yet - oops! But I just happen to have a gift certificate to Borders that I got for my birthday that I haven't used yet so this seems like the perfect thing to use it on! Mo tells me the book is great though apparently I'm going to need to buy a box of tissues along with the book as I'm going to need them!

At least he warned me!! Everyone enjoy the show and I'll catch you in the archives (after I've read the book!).

A Rant & A Rave

*******************
First a rant ...

I already wrote about this particular topic once way back on November 14th of last year (see post here) but I think it bears repeating because there are still many, many, many people out there who apparently have not gotten the message, refused to hear it the first time, or suffer from a worse memory than mine. If, by repeating myself, this post can save just one 911 dispatcher the frustration that I felt today then it was worth it.

For those who don't know this - 911 is not - I repeat is not - a magic number whereby you dial it and help immediately and miraculously lands on your doorstep without you having had to tell the human being (human being - not psychic!) on the other end exactly what your particular emergency is. It does not work that way - we have to ask questions.

The reason I bring this up - again - today is that I had one of those highly annoying 911 calls that all of us who are insane enough to work in our chosen field get from time to time where the person calling felt that by screaming at me and being rude, he was going to get an ambulance to respond quicker. Add on the fact that I got this call at the very end of my shift while trying to give turn-over to the guy who was taking over for me and that explains why I brought the frustration home with me rather than leave it in the dispatch center where it belongs.

The call came from a local pharmacy store and was for a person who was having active seizures but rather than understand the fact that my partner was perfectly capable of starting the ambulance while I asked a few more crucial questions and maybe - just maybe - give some instructions to the caller that could help the patient before we got there, the original caller handed the phone over to the store manager who proceeded to scream at me about not asking stupid questions and just get the ambulance there NOW!

I should be used to it by now - I should be immune to people screaming and hollering at me on the phone - but I'm not. Why on earth do people think that being rude and yelling while treating me like a complete and total idiot is going to get them something quicker? I fully understand that watching someone have a seizure can be scary as the patient will tend to pass out and stop breathing (perfectly normal in the course of a seizure) but if a caller won't calm down enough for me to tell them that or what to do once the seizure stops, it makes my job that much more frustrating as well as making the caller helpless instead of helpful.

I am a trained professional. I can give vital life-saving information. I can pass on information to the ambulance crew that is responding that might make a difference in the outcome for the patient. But I can't do it if I'm being yelled at by the person on the other end of the phone.

Please, if you ever find yourself in a position where you have to call 911, try to remember that we are there to help and that we can help if you give us a chance. The ambulance or fire department or police officer is going to take awhile to get to where you are (the technology to "beam" people over yet does not exist) but in the meantime you as the person on the scene can help either your loved one, the stranger that you stopped to assist, or even yourself if you'll just give the 911 operator on the other end of the phone the chance to do so.

I'm sure that there is not a single 911 operator out there who wouldn't be thankful for the opportunity to do his or her job without being yelled at. I know I would be.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now a rave ...
Whatever you're doing tomorrow night between 7:00-8:00 p.m. EST, don't forget to tune into The Mo Show at it's new time spot on blog talk radio.
This week's topic will be "Classic Sitcoms" and it's sure to be another fun-filled hour while the magnificnet Morgen, host of the show, presides over such burning questions as:
Did you ever wonder why the Professor could make a radio out of a coconut but couldn't fix a hole in The Minnow?
Ever want Sister Bertrille to toss the habit and take a flying leap into Carlos Ramirez' arms?
Do you still say "Whachoo talkin' 'bout, Willis?"
It's sure to be a great hour and I would be willing to bet the farm that you'll be able to hear Mo's infectious laugh a time or two as there will be no canned laughter for our man Morgen!
Be there or be prepared to have some 'splaining to do!
A veritable cornucopia of stuff!
********************
I apologize in advance for the length of this post but there are a bunch of things I've been meaning to get to and just haven't had the chance due to the fact that I write too much about other stuff most of the time! Because of that, I am throwing a veritable cornucopia of stuff at you with this post!
First out of the horn, The Erstwhile Librarian is one of my favorite stops while blog-reading as Joan is just one of the nicest ladies out there and I really enjoy the look and feel of her blog. Recently Joan, retired librarian enjoying life and all it has to offer, awarded me with two awards that have recently been making their way around the Blogosphere -
These awards are part of a series of five blogger awards that were developed by Christy Z. of Writer's Reviews which can be found here. In addition to these two awards Christy has also developed The Inspriational Blogger Award, The Courageous Blogger Award, and The Charity Blogger Award.
I am quite flattered that Joan felt I was qualified to receive both of these honors but I'm not so sure about that myself! The Thoughtful Blogger is "for those who answer blog comments, emails, and make their visitors feel at home on their blogs. For the people who take others feelings into consideration before speaking out and who are kind and courteous."
Whereas I do try to make visitors feel at home here on my blog there are probably those who might differ when it comes to me always taking others feelings into consideration before speaking out - though I do try to be kind and courteous most times, I know I can sometimes be a bit outspoken and passionate about those things that matter to me. It's part of who I am and I can't apologize for that.
The Creative Blogger goes to "those who bring unique and creative elements to their blogs. For those who incorporate art, music, creative writing, photo's, and other beautiful visual effects into their website. For those who put a unique spin on things and come up with new ideas. This award is for the artsy, the funky, the inventor, and even the rebel. This award is for those creative individuals who stand out from the crowd."
I do try to be as creative as possible even though I am not an artistic person, that particular talent goes to Amanda! But I'd like to think that I attempt to throw some creativity in here once in awhile and Joan apparently thinks so also which means that I am going to take my award and say 'thank you'!
One of the best parts of being given these awards is that I now have the chance to pass the honor on to other people and an even better part is that I don't have to make it simply the award I was given but can choose from any of the five available. To that end, I am presenting the following bloggers with the following awards:
For those bloggers who inspire others through their words and actions. With a positive attitude, and an uplifting spirit these bloggers make the blogosphere a better place, and encourage others to do the same. This award is for bloggers who rise up to set an example but continue to reach out and support others.
For those bloggers who are battling or have battled with physical and mental illness, those who are survivors of abuse, poverty, or who have overcome other challenges in life. Those who serve in the military or work/volunteer in dangerous situations in order to provide a service or to help others. This award is for the strong, the brave, and the courageous.
"For those who bring unique and creative elements to their blogs. For those who incorporate art, music, creative writing, photo's, and other beautiful visual effects into their website. For those who put a unique spin on things and come up with new ideas. This award is for the artsy, the funky, the inventor, and even the rebel. This award is for those creative individuals who stand out from the crowd."
Ladies and gentlemen, you are more than worthy of these awards and I am happy to present them to you. For those of my readers who are not familiar with the above blogs and their authors, I urge you to go read a bit of them and you'll see why I've chosen them. Hopefully you will admire them as much as I do!
Okay next out of the horn - the announcement of the upcoming blog carnival at Blog Village where yours truly as submitted a post from last July. The carnival is being hosted by Texas RV Travel Blog beginning on Monday, July 30th and can be found here. Stop on by for what is sure to be some great reading!
Tumbling out next is a shout-out to my friend Ed over at The Pisstakers who is finally back up and running after having some hard-drive problems. Get your minds out of the gutter people - it was his computer!
Just a reminder that Ed takes a screenshot of the last 10 MyBlogLog bloggers to visit his blog every Sunday morning sometime around 10 a.m. or so and if the lucky 10 also leave a comment with a link to the best post of the week on their own blog, they will receive a "slightly witty mini review". It's a great way to get a little linky love (I told you his hard-drive was fixed, didn't I?!) as well as toot your own horn a little bit about what you think was your best post of the week. I submitted my post What America Means to Me as mine and Ed graciously gave me 5 stars for it! I was psyched, to say the least! Stop on by, tell Ed I said "hey", and browse a bit - he's got some good stuff over there!
Finally last out of the horn - but never least - is a promo for my friend Mo's upcoming blog talk radio show tomorrow night with special guest - Her Majesty Mimi, Queen of Memes! The Mo Show will be talking about memes, memes, and more memes tomorrow evening and I hope you'll be there as we learn about proper meme etiquette, the punishments available for those not responding to a meme tag, and just about everything else you ever did or didn't want to know about those pesky little things that make their way around the Blogosphere faster than rumors of Lindsay and Britney! Listen in, call in, or IM in and if you're lucky you'll be able to find out what Dixie had for dinner, too!
There are probably a couple more things kicking around in that cornucopia but I think for now you've had about all you can handle for one post! Not just that but the truth be told, my fingers need a rest, too!
Everyone have a great Tuesday and thanks for stopping by!
A Couple of Promos for a Couple of Blog-Friends
Last week one of my blogging buddies, Gale Martin wrote a post setting herself a goal that is to be admired. She has been working on a novel, Savage Grace, that I am just chomping at the bit to read as soon as it's published, but her progress has been slowed by life in general and blogging in particular. We all know that blogging is an addiction and it can certainly take up a good portion of our lives if we let it (this typed as I gaze around the mess that is my living room) but Gale has made a promise to change that.
An excerpt from Gale's post stated:
"So, here's the deal. For me blogging is like candy. It's a treat, like the one or two Swedish fish I have when I want to treat myself.
In order to make myself finish my book, I'm only posting a blog entry if I've written three pages toward completing one of my two unfinished novels."
This is a great goal and I support her 100% in her efforts. However, I'm not the only one encouraging Gale to achieve what she has set out for herself. As a matter of fact, there is someone who is even more of a cheerleader and dedicated to see Gale get her novel done and that's Frank of FoxxFyrre's Honk'nHoll'r. Frank has designated himself the President of The Unofficial Gale Martin Novel Writing Cheering Squad - of which I am a proud member.
In order to encourage Gale and cheer her on, Frank has posted a "Novel Writing Progress Log" on his sidebar here and you are all encouraged to sign up and join me as an official member of the The Unofficial Gale Martin Writing Cheering Squad, too. No pom-poms required!
So far Gale has done fantastic and has written 10.5 pages since setting her goal and the rest of us have been rewarded with three great posts to read because of her diligence. This is a win-win situation for all so head on over to Frank's blog and tell him you want to sign up. After all, I got passed over for cheerleading try-outs in Junior High which means I'm probably not very good at it and I could definitely use some help!
Speaking of cheering people on, tomorrow is Tuesday and that means it's once again time for The Mo Show on Blog-Talk Radio! You can tune in tomorrow from 6:30 to 7:30 EST and join in on the fun when the topic is going to be Cats - Our Furry Feline Friends.
This is going to be show #4 for Mo and each week he has just been getting better and better in his role as radio host. Listen in, call in, send an Instant Message via Yahoo!. If life is going to get in the way and you can't get there live don't forget that you can listen in on the archives, too! Just don't listen to last week's show where I called in as I truly hate my voice!
I must say that I am so happy and thrilled for the success of both Gale and Mo - two of the nicest people you'll ever meet in the Blogosphere - and you can bet your bottom dollar that I'm going to be telling everyone "I knew them when"!!
Think There's Nothing Good on Tuesday Evenings? Think Again!
Okay, so it's Tuesday evening and you are bored, bored, bored with the line-up on the talking box otherwise known as the TV and you've surfed your entire blogroll and just don't know what to do next. You could always clean the house, spend some time with the kids and/or spouse, or read a book but why do that when you can listen to The Mo Show instead??
I am pleased and happy to announce that Morgen of It's A Blog Eat Blog World has decided to heap one more helping onto his over-flowing plate in the form of a Blog Talk Radio show all his own. One of the nicest guys ever to author a blog, Mo already has his hands full operating The Wren's Nest, a lovely little shop located in beautiful downtown Dowagiac, Michigan.
The Wren's Nest
The Wren's Nest Shoppe
If you can't make it to beautiful downtown Dowagiac, you can always go to Mo's on-line store of the same name where he has over 31 categories that you can shop from including candles and accessories, wind chimes, bird feeders, gardening needs, cat and squirrel stuff as well as a great selection of Badger Balms. I haven't had a chance to order from him yet but I hear tell from many satisfied customers that Mo goes above and beyond when it comes to making sure the customer is treated just like a friend. I'm sure once I can order something, I won't be disappointed.
In addition to his duties as shopkeeper extraordinaire, Mo authors It's A Blog Eat Blog World where he gave birth to the popular Manic Monday meme, the written version of The Mo Show, and Purrchance to Dream; his claim to fame in the Cat Blogosphere where he is Not the Mama to four of the cutest little felines you've ever seen - Daphne, Chloe, Jazper, and Spooker.
Jazper the cat
Jazper Displaying the Patience of a Saint
Add to all this his new adventures in Blog Talk Radio on the live version of The Mo Show on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 p.m. where he plans "An eclectic cornucopia of entertainment, rants, raves, and ramblings." and I'm just not sure when he's going to have the time to care for his other flock at home including this fine, though angry!, looking specimen:
Marshall
Marshall Is In a "Fowl" Mood!
I hope you'll have a chance to stop in and listen to one of the nicest guys in the Blogosphere when he makes his debut with In The Beginning on Tuesday evening at 6:30 Eastern, 5:30 Central. If you're feeling brave you can even call in and chat with Mo live at (646) 716-7100. Should you do so, tell him Mouseski sent you!
MoGood luck, Mo, my friend - I'm sure you're going to be a hit!!
