I've Got a Question, You've Got an Answer

It's been an absolutely crazy week for me at work as I worked double shifts on Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. If I'm doing my math correctly, that means from Monday morning at 7:00 until last night at 11:00 I worked 48 hours out of 88. Methinks I just spent way too much time sitting behind a dispatch console but I guess that's what happens when I decide to spend a week off gallivanting in California! No wonder it was six years since my last visit!

As I was thinking about dragging myself out of bed this morning to accomplish a few things on my day off - including making some blog rounds! - a couple of questions popped into my head that I thought might be a good basis for this post:

How many of you work crazy hours like I do?
What's your normal work week consist of?
Do you have a normal work week??

Anyhow, I'm off today but back to work tomorrow with shifts through until Tuesday so I'd best get going on that blog reading I'm so behind in. Why do I have a feeling of dread about opening my Google Reader?

Update: Good grief, people, there are 257 unread posts in my Google Reader! Please forgive me if I hit "Mark All As Read" and start over! Aiyee!!!

  1. I'm surprised you can still stand up!

My normal work week is 32.5 hours 5 days a week, with 14 weeks holiday a year! I work in a school term time only. Are you jealous?

  2. Oh, pick me.

When I have certain people on vacation at the same time, I will often work from 3am until 7 or 8 at night, and it's never for one day at a time. "Normally" I go in at 7, and leave whenever, again, that can be 2PM, or it can be 7-8PM, depending on production. I wish we could just have a second shift, because then I would have a regular start AND stop time.. but for now, it is what it is! And we're working every Saturday until further notice too. Yay!

  4. I couldn't work your shifts. It must be grueling on your body. I don't see how you do it. Really.

  5. P.S. And don't worry about the blog rounds. We all do the "start over" thing in our readers when we're overwhelmed. Pace yourself....

  7. My job has very normal hours, but not regular ones. In each is the same as the previous week on the same day, but not like the other days. I have a lot of freedom on the road in sales that I love...

  8. I don't work, and I don't envy you having to be in that rat race. I spent way too many years in it and don't want to have to go back.

    Have a good weekend.

  10. My hours are all over the map. My 30-hour job is not that at all, and will never change.

I don't know how you do it, Linda.

  11. Normally I work Friday and Saturday 11pm-7am...Sunday 3pm-7am (double shift) and Monday 11p-7am. I've got a lot of time off to use before July though, so I took a vacation day for tomorrow and will be on a vacation next week for a week. :)

  12. Hi - I've popped over from Mary the Teach's blog. I've done the Make a Wish Meme and linked to you so you could keep track of all the wishes.

My work week is 8:30 to 4:30, Monday to Friday. It's a relief, I can tell you!

I am working Fri, Sat, Sun, Tues, Wed, Thur nights. Then I have 4 days off.

guess that's a normal work week for me...for now anyway...hoping for a new job with better hours (amonst other things)

  14. My week is a weird one. Start time 5 pm, average out, between 7 or 8 am the following morning. I night manage the hotel I work at, but my wife and I also have the night cleaning contract for the hotel as well. My duty shift is 5pm to minimum of 1:30 am. Then I take a break until my wife arrives and we clean until were finished. Because the hotel never closes, the cleaning is 365 days a year contract. We have 1 employee that work 2 days a week so Lola and I can each take a day off. It can be grueling at times, but at least half the day I get to work with my wife side by side. My duty shift can be really interesting, but that's another story.

  15. I have to admit, my work hours are very good. I work full time but just Monday-Thursday. In reality, I never work 40 hours. I just work fast.

  17. I work 40 hours a week at my paying job and endless hours at the non-paying one, ya know...mom, wife, home maker, etc. ;)

  18. Hey, Linda.
I stay at home with the babes, which sometimes calls for insane hours. ;-P
But I do sometimes work the weekends, regular day hours.

oh....I'm right there with crazy working mom...up above me!!

  19. Supposedly once you retire you have scads and scads of time to do anything you want ... RIGHTTTTTTTT

I spend more time on the computer now than when I was working. Research projects, writing projects, communicating with others ... the only major difference is that now I can do it a 3:00 a.m. instead of nine to five.

    Don't retire. : )

  20. I hope it's not too late to answer!

I work M-F, generally 0700 to 1600, in an offic, and 95% of my tasks require me to be at my desk doing something on the computer.

As such, it could be said I have a normal week. But at any point during my office hours, I could be called upon to defend the the department against nerf attacks.
