Manic Monday - "Friend"

********************
Normally I don't participate in the Manic Monday meme over at It's A Blog Eat Blog World but that's not because I don't think that it's a great meme - it is! It's because my work schedule right now puts me at work from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m. on Sundays and with no blogging allowed on the computers at work, it makes it pretty tough to get something posted before Monday afternoon.

However, because this week's theme is Friend I figured I would get a post written ahead of time, post it before work Monday morning, and participate for a change. Not that last week's theme of Peace wasn't equally important - it was! - but a true friend is not someone to be taken for granted and this gives me a great opportunity to talk about my very best friend in the world - Miz Cyn from Stockton, California.

Obviously I don't get the chance to see or talk to her as much as I would like what with there being approximately 2,998 miles between us and me not having the financial wherewithal to jet back and forth across the country but she is never far from my thoughts. Cyndi is a remarkable woman, though she would scoff at me for saying that, and she has my utmost respect and devotion.

We met way back in 1984 when I first began dispatching at the Stockton Police Department and immediately hit it off like we had known each other for years. Though the vast majority of our friendship has been of the long distance nature, I know that there is no truer friend in the world. We've had our ups and downs - all good friendships do - but we know that the bond we share as friends is more valuable than any disagreement could ever be.

I know that I could pick up the phone any time of the day or night and on the other end would be a true friend. I can cry on her shoulder, I can laugh with her, I can rant with her, I can discuss politics with her, and I can expect nothing but honesty from her. If I did something stupid (which I have been known to do!) then I know that she is not going to sugar-coat it but is going to serve it up plain with a side of common sense thrown in for good measure. She has been my biggest cheerleader, my greatest source of comfort, and the one person that I know I can say anything to and she isn't going to abandon me or think less of me. She might tell me I'm a complete and total idiot but I know she says it with love!

I hope that everyone has a Miz Cyn in their life - I know that my life would be so much emptier without her friendship and I consider myself truly blessed to have a friend of her caliber. I just wish to heck we didn't live on opposite sides of the country or, barring that, I had the financial wherewithal to jet back and forth to visit her! In the meantime, thank AT&T for unlimited long distance!

Even though she doesn't get the chance to read my blog as often as I might like her to, I would like to dedicate the following song to her in the hopes that maybe one of these nights when she can't sleep and has nothing better to do she might she stumble across it! One can only hope!

James Taylor - You've Got a Friend

Cyndi, if you do come across this post I love you and I miss you! Thank you for your undying and invaluable friendship.

  1. You Cyn and my Sarah seem to have been cut from the same cloth. We even picked the same song but different performers. You are so fortunate in your friendship.

  5. Great post, Linda! I have been fortunate to have a "Miz Cyn" - or is it "Mr. Cyn"? in my life as well. My best friend Steve got married last weekend, and yes, even this tough "Bulldog" shed a tear. I couldn't help but think back on 26 or so years of crazy stuff we'd been through together, and how "...life comes at you fast". I could never run for political office because of all the "dirt" he has on me - not that he'd ever spill the beans, but...!

  6. Oops, sorry for being so self-absorbed in that last comment. You are a lucky person to have a "Ms Cyn" in your life. How else can anyone hold themself together on this roller-coaster of life! You must be pretty good @ the "friend thing" yourself to keep such a relationship going for so long, and so far away. Kudos to both of you!

  13. What a beautiful post.

This is my first one EVER ... and I didn't even know it until after my post what the topic was. I was doing a summer time re-run and just so happens it's the same topic.

I'm so glad to have met you and can call you my friend.

  16. Wow. I'm honored and darn near close to speechless-which is rare. All I can say is that you know I feel the same about you, and that ANYONE who has the gift of a friendship with you possesses a treasure beyond time, space or price. I love ya, Yogi.

  18. I live in a small town called Hughson. It is in the Central part of California. Five miles from Highway 99 that runs North/South. If you are heading South from Sacramento a few towns would be Lodi, Modesto, Ceres (I live five miles east of Ceres), Fresno, Bakersfield. There you have it.

  19. Great post on friends! I have a couple friends who I consider to be "best" of friends to me but one - my friend Joan, down in the D.C. suburbs, who I rarely get to see, we talk maybe once a year on the phone unless someone is really sick or a common friend dies, but I know (and I have) called her at all hours of the day or night, sometimes to just chit-chat, sometimes to cry, sob, rant and rave about everything from soup to nuts and she knows, she can do the same thing in return to me if the urge so hits her. My friend Kate, down the street from me, has been my close friend since we were probably 2 or 3 years old, through school, church activities, children. And though I am sure I could call and take to Kate about many things, the thing that gives me the best comfort with her is knowing if I am sick, and if my daughter is really worried and upset over me, she could call Kate at probably any hour and she'd be up at my house as soon as she could pull appropriate clothes and shoes on to hold my daughter's hand, calm her and make sure I'm ok too! Good post, really good post, kid!

  21. I didn't find your post until late tonight. I did mine Sunday p.m.
I love that you have a "Cyn" in your life! It makes the burdens of this life (not that we have any...) so much easier to bear if we have another's hand to hold!
I'm so glad she found your post...
    ~~~Blessings~~~
