I've Got a Question - You've Got an Answer

In an effort to perhaps give myself a little more energy and feel a bit better while trying to shed the winter blues (and pounds), I have decided to start eating better and incorporate some exercise into my daily routine. Of course I have to get my Gazelle elliptical machine out from behind the couch where it has been residing all winter first but that shouldn't be that hard - I hope!

It's also going to involve my putting down the controller for the XBox 360 and stop playing "Bejeweled 2"- rats! Amazing how much time can go by while I'm mindlessly moving around little colored shapes on the TV screen. Now if I could figure out how to play the game while using the Gazelle at the same time then I'm sure I'd have no trouble exercising for hours on end but, alas, I'm just not that coordinated!

Still it's time to stop making excuses and start taking some action. Which brings me to this week's question -

Do you exercise daily? If so, what do you do and what motivates you?
If not, what would it take to motivate you?

While you folks answer that one, I'm going to go play some more Bejeweled while I think about getting the Gazelle out ...

  2. I used to exercise daily. I've always been in pretty good shape and I like to stay that way. I usually don't have trouble being motivated to exercise because it makes me feel good.

    Unfortunately, chronic pain is starting to catch up to me and I'm not able to work out daily anymore. I've been trying to do stretches through the winter to stay as limber as possible, but I just haven't been able to do it.

  3. Yes, I exercise almost everyday. I'm a walker. If you're married to my husband (slim and trim at 60), you have to exercise. When you get older you also really need to get out there and move. I wouldn't say I'm a power walker, but there have been guys that can't keep up with me. I average about 4 miles a day. That isn't enough as it's recommended that each person take 10,000 step per day. That's a lot.

    The motivation that does it for me, is I know I will have more energy and I feel better if I just get out there and walk. :)

  4. Unfortunately, no I don't exercise everyday... Should I? Most definitely. I got lots of weight to lose. I actually just started another blog specifically geared for my weightloss and am starting to make blogger friends in that area...they are part of my motivation. The other part is simply a desire to live longer. Take care and good luck. P.S. I like that Bejeweled game too!

  5. Personally, I refrain from excessive physical exertion; it shocks the body, weakens the joints and saps the soul.

    Instead I indulge in a little tai-chi. This may sound like a
    cop-out to you, but Tai-chi becomes somewhat of an extreme sport when practicsed on top of a 15 foot pole.

  6. you know that hubby and I are in a race to lose our 50 lbs. Me? I walk at work for about 15-20 min. what keeps me going is the thought "I want some Chinese food"...makes a great mantra as it goes well with each step. (remember that the winner of the race gets to pick a restaraunt and he doesn't care for Chinese)!!

    another thing that gets me moving is music. I burned a CD with 30min of songs that just make me wanna boogey and I crank it up loud when I want to excercise at home....(before I worked) It really doesn't matter what the "dance" looks like as long as you're moving your arms and legs...if you get slightly winded then you're burning calories!

  7. I don't right now, but I'm working on getting started again. I want to start actually working out before spring hits, so I'm not completely out of shape when my sister-in-law and I start walking again! Maybe when I get home I'll clear a spot on the floor of the living room for my yoga mat.. if the computer doesn't get ahold of me first!

    After running around at work and playing with our grandchildren, the only motivation we have left is the exercise to find our bed!

  9. I need to lose weight so I have been trying to eat healthily and I have been doing 10 mins of Calanetics in the morning and 20minutes of Pilates in the evening. I don't do impact exercise because of my knee, though I'm on the lookout for a belly dancing class - I've heard that's great exercise. Good luck with your new regime Linda. :)

  11. I'm proud to say that I'm in the gym almost every weekday morning at 5:30. I'm working with a trainer twice a week and she does a good job of getting me moving and keeping me moving.

    My motivation is the fact that a little over three years ago I weighed over 400 pounds. I lost 140 pounds after gastric bypass surgery and I want to make sure I keep it off.

    I also feel a lot better when I exercise every day. There's a sense of accomplishment when I finish my workout and it seems to give me more energy to face the day with.

  12. No, I don't. As a physical therapist I know that I should. I guess that I can't get any momentum going after chasing the kids all day. I need to start out slow with some gentle yoga in the morning.

  13. Yes i excercise evert day.
    My knees are not what they used to be but i can still walk.
    Motivation?
    Mine is just being by my self for those few minutes it clears my head of all the rubbish and leaves me refreshed.
